AE Crowell dust jacket plover achieves $120,000 in decoy auction

A "dust jacket" style black bellied plover by legendary carver AE Crowell has sold for $120,000 at Guyette & Deeter.

The lot crossed the block on the first day of the July Decoy Auction in Maryland on July 29.

AE Crowell holds the record for the world's most valuable decoy

Specialist Stephen O'Brien, who brokered a sale of $1.1m for two Crowell decoys in 2007, describes him as "Cezanne in the field of waterfowl carving".

His auction record stands at $830,000, the most ever paid for a single decoy.
