Drake's Plantation bottle brings $38,000 to American Bottle Auctions

A rare St Drake's Plantation X bitters bottle has sold for $37,950 as part of American Bottle Auctions' latest sale, which ended on June 30.

St Drakes Plantation X Bitter bottle
The St Drake's Plantation bottle has the three key factors for collectors: colour, condition and rarity

The bottle was made circa 1862-1872 and is one of only a few known in the blue-green colour. It came close to breaking the record for a bottle of its kind - a tribute to its rarity.

The record for a quart scroll flask was set by a brilliant deep blue example, which was graded at 9.8 out of 10 and sold for $19,550.

A tepee shaped Ira Harvey blue soda bottle also achieved a new record, selling for $16,100 to become the most valuable soda bottle ever sold at auction.
