George Eastman Museum acquires early Kodak film

The George Eastman Museum in Rochester, New York has acquired two of the only known early rolls of Kodak film.

Kodak introduced its box camera in 1888

The film dates to 1888, the year Eastman founded Kodak and introduced its famous box camera, making photography cheap and available to all.

Todd Gustavson, technology curator at the George Eastman Museum, comments: "We have always kept an eye out for film manufactured in the late 1880s to complete our collection of objects related to the first-generation Kodak camera.

"We jumped at the chance to bring these two boxes home to Rochester."
