A Queen Anne five-drawer maple chest, attributed to esteemed American furniture maker Samuel Dunlap and thought to be circa 1785-1820, is to auction in Manhattan on January 22, from the eclectic Klein Collection.
The magnificent piece carries an impressive $200,000-300,000 pre-auction estimate.

The price is testament to the bold, quality design of the chest, as well as to the value of the original, oval brasses, which remain intact, and in good condition. The chest's eye-catching salmon paint job is also a desirable feature, positively influencing the chest's forecasted value.
Collectors Joanne and Geoffrey Klein have famously acquired a diverse range of painted furniture, American folk art and modern sculpture, which dates from the 18th through to the 21st centuries.
In conversation with AFA News, Joanne Klein said of the couple's collecting style: "I will combine a Jim Dine lithograph with an early hooked rug. Each is seen together as a unit, but each also has its own space."
The couple are selling their impressive and artful collection following a decision to relocate in order to be closer to their son and his family.
Leigh Keno, the auctioneer overseeing the sale (which will also feature multiple lots from two other notable collections), commented: "It has been a great joy to work with the collections assembled by the Isbells, Kleins and Abbes, for the great quality, rarity and condition and provenance of their pieces as well as the passion with which they have lavished their attentions.
"Having lived with such rarities in their homes, they pass along not only the historical significance of peerless construction, but the sense of a living American tradition."
