A Lacour’s Sarsapariphere western bitters bottle led an auction of antique US glass bottles last month.
The circa 1866-1875 bottle realised $35,650 - a new auction record for Lacour's.
This is a unique variant of the Lacour's Sarsapariphere bottle
Jeff Wichmann, of American Bottle Auctions, said: “The Lacour’s bottles went crazy, but so many bottles just went way above and beyond what we thought they’d do.
“That same Lacour’s bottle five or 10 years ago might have only brought half of what we sold it for. Western bottles are hot right now.”
While Lacour’s bottles aren’t especially uncommon, certain colour variants are extremely rare. This blue example is unique.
