A metal detector enthusiast in Scotland has discovered a huge trove of Viking treasure, the largest ever found in the country.
The find includes over 100 objects, ranging from jewellery and ingots to an important silver Carolingian pot.
The find is the largest viking hoard ever unearthed in Scotland |
Stuart Campbell, from the National Museum of Scotland, told the BBC: "This is a hugely significant find, nothing like this has been found in Scotland before in terms of the range of material this hoard represents.
"There's material from Ireland, from Scandinavia, from various places in central Europe and perhaps ranging over a couple of centuries."
