Rudolf Linke incense vessel to make $50,000?

A late 19th century silver incense vessel designed by Rudolf Linke is to auction at Baclis Barcelona on July 17.

Believed to be worth €38,000 ($49,530), the painted, ruby-encrusted vessel, modelled as if balancing on the argent shoulders of Neptune, ancient Roman god of the oceans, was made circa 1885-1904 in Vienna.

Although they seldom appear at auction, exceptional decorative silver items attributed to Linke are popular among collectors the world over.

An enamelled cornucopia boasting a griffin stem sold for $12,500 in April 2008, while a silver-mounted standing scent bottle brought $3,443 in December 2003.
