Sikh warrior drawing makes 2,300% increase at 25 Blythe Road

25 Blythe Road's second online only sale of Indian, Islamic, Himalayan and South East Asian Works of Art attracted top bids for a drawing of a Sikh warrior.

The work is typical of the artistic style of the Mughal empire

The ink and gouache drawing dates to the 18th century and depicts a Sikh or Rajput warrior holding a bow and arrow. Originally estimated at just £300-500, it sold for £12,000 ($19,126), a 2,300% increase.

More outstanding results were seen at the London sale by a Tibetan 16th century figure of a lama, which was estimated to sell for £1,500, but realised £11,400 ($18,169) and a 850% increase on estimate.

Buddhist bronze and gilt figures have been selling extremely well at auction recently, with a seated Yongle period figure making $30.5m at Sotheby's in October.
