A Banksy stencil of Abraham Lincoln has sold with excellent results as part of Neal Auction Company's Summer Estates Auction, which was held on July 13-14 in New Orleans.

The piece sold for an impressive $65,000, rising above its $50,000 high estimate by 30%.
The work is intimately connected with New Orleans, having been created by Banksy in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
The artist paid a visit to the city following the catastrophic event in 2005, leaving a trail of tags and trademark stencils behind him. One of the many works he created while there was a large version of the homeless Abraham Lincoln stencil at a major intersection.
The friend that he was visiting while in New Orleans was impressed with the design, and Banksy subsequently created this smaller version before he left. It is one in a varied series of three, each of which is painted on cardboard.
Another of the three sold at Sotheby's in March 2011 for $68,500, making a 128% increase on its $30,000 high estimate.
Banksy's work remains popular on the present market, with a limited edition screen print of his celebrated work Love is in the Air making a 63.2% increase on estimate at Bonhams in June.
