If you're a regular reader of Paul Fraser Collectibles then you'll be aware of the perennial appeal of doggy-related collectibles. Now Bonhams is set to contribute to the canine collectibles markets with its upcoming 'Dogs in Show & Field: The Fine Art Sale' auction.
Among the sale's highlights are some classic paintings by the famed canine artist William Henry Hamilton Trood (1860-1899). Trood's works will auction on 15 February at Bonhams New York.
Bonhams' highlights include "Hounds in a Kennel" (estimated at $60,000-$80,000) which, as its name suggests, depicts a pack of hounds in a kennel.

This piece is especially charming thanks to Woods' capturing of each dog's individual character - and the addition of a robin peering into the kennel.
Also up for sale is Déjeuner (estimated at $50,000-70,000), a more sentimental artwork featuring a scene of puppies gathered round a bowl before an audience of ducklings, chicks and a cat.
Bonhams' cites the painting's "scale and quality [which] marks it as being one of the finest paintings by the artist to come to auction."
Trood was born in the early years of Queen Victoria's reign when domestic dogs were becoming increasingly popular among her subjects. Canine paintings were also on the rise, and Trood eventually became known as one of the most gifted exponents of doggy art.
He exhibited extensively at the Royal Academy, Suffolk Street, the New Watercolour Society and the Grosvenor Gallery.
"Trood is a treasure in the world of canine art and these two paintings are a perfect illustration of why this is the case ... in a time when the genre of dog painting was at its height," said Sam Travers of Bonhams 19th Century Pictures department.
Bonhams' sale also stars Arthur Wardle, Valentine Garland, Percival Rosseau and over 30 works by Reuben Ward Binks.
