A superb example of Carmine Infantino's artwork for The Flash is to provide one of the many highlights in Heritage Auctions' Vintage Comics & Comic Art Signature Auction.

The November 15-17 sale will take place in Dallas, with the exceedingly rare Flash cover art among its top lots. The 1963 piece is currently selling for $47,500, after attracting six bids.

The cover is one of the rare DC Earth-One/Earth-Two crossovers, which are highly desirable to both Silver and Golden Age collectors. The crossover originates from DC's idea to create multiple versions of Earth in order to allow their Golden Age characters to appear in the same issue with their Silver Age heroes.

The concept sees Earth-One belonging to Silver Age characters, while Earth-Two is home to the stars of the Golden Age. In the current example, the Golden Age Flash (Jay Garrick) appears locked in battle with his Silver Age counterpart, Barry Allen.

Carmine Infantino was the artist behind the Silver Age Flash for 11 years, between 1956 and 1967. A well-respected DC artist, he has also drawn fan-favourites such as Batman, Adam Strange and the origin story of Deadman. His work is very rarely seen at auction, with Earth-One/Earth-Two crossovers even scarcer.

Also featuring in the sale is Todd McFarlane's cover art for The Amazing Spider-Man #325. The work originates from the Shamus Modern Masterworks collection, as did the cover art for Spider-Man #328, which set an auction record for the most valuable piece of American comic art ever sold back in July.
