This weekend, William J Jenack auctioneers will hold its Important Fine Art & Antique Auction. The 389 lot sale will hold a variety to types of collectible including a fine collection of sterling silver from the 18th through 20th centuries.
The two most exciting sections, however, are probably the Chinese art (including pottery and porcelain) and the vintage timepieces.
The timepieces are made up primarily by a section of the Frick collection of pocket watches, dating from all through the last three centuries including pieces such as an attractive Cartier 18 karat gold, 18 jewel example.

With an open, square face utilising Roman numerals and monogrammed on the reverse, the piece is expected to sell for around $1,000 - a good entry level investment for someone just starting a watch collection.
Amongst the Chinese art, the prize piece is probably a Sine-Tibetan carved and polychromed figure of Avalokiteshvara (alternative known as Guan Yin), a colourful bodhisattva which stands, or rather sits, at an impressive 49 inches tall. It is estimated at $5,000-8,000.

The most fascinating piece of all is perhaps a French ivory and silver brass orrery timepiece (an apparatus for representing the positions, motions, and phases of the planets, satellites, etc., in the solar system) which belonged to an English ambassador to France
The piece was made by the celebrated 'horloger' Charles Requier, and is listed at just $3,000, though bidders should note that there are likely to be problems with exporting the piece as it includes ivory.
