A 1928 self-portrait by painter David Jagger set a new artist record at Bonhams on June 14.
This unsettling painting is considered one of Jagger's greatest works
It realised £221,000 ($281,509) against a valuation of £30,000 ($38,214), an increase of 636%.
Jagger (1891-1958) was an acclaimed portraitist in high demand among the aristocracy of his era.
Matthew Bradbury, director of modern British and Irish art at Bonhams, said: “To once again set a world record for a work by David Jagger, particularly with a such a striking portrait of exceptional quality, is a wonderful result.”
