American film director Gary Winick's superb collection of movie memorabilia auctions on April 4.

Winick, who died at the age of just 49 in February 2011 after a long battle with brain cancer, directed Hollywood hits such as 13 Going on 30, Charlotte's Web and Bride Wars.

Between directorial efforts, he amassed a fine collection of art, photography, watches and interior design, much of which now appears at the sale, yet it is his movie memorabilia collection that is expected to attract most interest.

The sale features more than 30 posters advertising Hitchcock movies. Among the most notable is a 1954 one sheet for his Dial M for Murder, valued at $2,000-3,000, and a one-sheet estimated at $3,000-4,000 for 1958 film Vertigo.

Storyboards from Winick's Bride Wars and Charlotte's Web films are also on offer, valued at $600 and $1,200, respectively.

An eclectic mix of items from the arts also stars.

These include a shoe design produced by Andy Warhol for a magazine, valued at $15,000-20,000, as well as a sketchbook that once belonged to US artist Purvis Young, estimated at $2,000-3,000.

A number of rare photographic prints will also be available to collectors, including a signed work by French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson of a performance of Swan Lake at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, in 1954. It has an estimate of $10,000-15,000.

Widely regarded as the pioneer of photojournalism, Cartier-Bresson's work On The Banks Of The Marne, France achieved $96,000 at a Sotheby's auction in 2006, suggesting the piece could sell well.

The auction house states: "To his family and friends… Winick was noted as much for his professional accomplishments as he was for his unique character, impeccable taste, and thoughtful collection".
