An iconic Red/Blue chair designed by Gerrit Rietveld in 1917 will star in Bonhams’ April 5 Important Design sale.
Gerrit Rietveld's Red/Blue chair is a symbol of the De Stijl movement
This example was manufactured to Rietveld’s original plan by maker Gerard van de Groenekan, circa 1979-1984.
The Red/Blue chair is one of the most recognisable examples of the Dutch De Stijl movement. The original is owned by New York’s MoMA.
The chair never went into production and so all those available on the market are replicas.
This one is valued at £7,000-10,000 ($8,491-12,130).
