This week will see a rare Leonardo da Vinci sketch star among prints and originals from the art world's biggest names in an online sale that closes August 23.

A rare find that could beat its estimate considerably

As rightly stated in the company's press release, not many online art auctions can say they're selling a da Vinci sketch, and the small figural nude from the Italian-born master will undoubtedly attract strong attention with an estimate of just $5,000-6,250. It stands as one of the few sketches from da Vinci to remain in private hands.

The piece is one of thousands created by da Vinci during his illustrious career, yet they are seldom seen at auction, with the majority already snapped up by museums and public institutions. Measuring just 4.5 by 6.5 inches, it is not one of da Vinci's more important offerings, though any sketch from the great man is sure to command excellent results.

In 2001, a preparatory study from da Vinci's unfinished panel The Adoration of the Magi sold for an impressive £8m, its final price enhanced by its relation to the important work. The artist's sketches have received renewed interest recently, after Ten Drawings by Leonardo da Vinci from the Royal Collection toured the UK earlier in the year.

Also starring in the sale will be six sculptures from Salvador Dali's Clot collection, which was created with the help of Spanish art dealer and foundry owner Isidro Clot circa 1970. The highlight of the collection is a sculpture of Carmen dancing, which will sell with a $3,500-5,380 estimate. A selection of prints from Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso and Pierre-August Renoir will follow.
