LS Lowry's Father and Two Sons will star in Sotheby's Modern & Post-War British Art sale on November 17.

Lowry's portraits are less well known than his landscapes

The work is expected to sell for around £1.5m-2.5m ($2.2m-3.8m) - which could make it Lowry's most valuable work.

Frank Cohen, the consignor of the work, explained: "If you were in Manchester in the 1950s you would have seen men like this�Ǫ"

The Lowry record stands at £2.3m ($3.4m) for Station Approach, Manchester.
