Morning Prayers by Ludwig Deutsch is to highlight an auction of orientalist art at Sotheby's.

Deutsch (1855-1935) was an Austrian-born artist acclaimed for his highly detailed paintings of middle-eastern scenes.

He became fascinated by the region following a visit to Egypt in 1838.

On his return to Europe he produced a huge range of paintings, using the photographs and artefacts he acquired in the east for reference.

Deutsch's work has a large and enthusiastic following. Another piece, titled Palace Guard (1893), made $1.4m at Sotheby's in April last year.

With an estimate of £500,000-800,000 ($716,050-1.1m) the present lot could well achieve a similar result.

His auction record stands at £2.1m ($3.2m), set for a piece titled The Offering in 2013.

David Roberts' The Bazaar of the Coppersmiths could make £300,000-500,000 ($429,630-716,050).

Roberts was another European artist who made the trip to the middle east in the 1830s.

On his return Roberts began producing lithographs from the sketches he made on his travels, which proved enormously popular.

Queen Victoria was one of his many subscribers.

The present lot is part of a small number of Cairo street scenes Roberts painted in the 1840s. It features a rare depiction of the Madrasa of Baybars, a building that was lost in 1874.
