A range of etchings from Marc Chagall are set to feature as part of Christie's upcoming Prints & Multiples sale on July 25.
|
The New York auction will see nine of Chagall's finest etchings sold, as Christie's offers collectors "exceptional opportunities to develop and grow their collections" with a selection of affordable prints from some of the world's best known artists.
Highlighting the Chagall works will be a series of three fantastic etchings, each of which were inspired by scenes from the Bible. A recurring theme throughout his career, the Bible works stay true to Chagall's iconic style and feature his own hand colouring, further boosting their value to collectors.
Leading bids will be one such plate from 1958 which has been initialled by the artist and is numbered 11 out of an edition of just 100. Estimated at $6,000-8,000, it will be sold in a lot along with a limited edition frontispiece from The Story of Exodus, and a 1922 print entitled Geburt, which appears in Chagall's autobiography Mein Leben.
Paul Fraser Collectibles has a stunning Marc Chagall print for sale, which has been boldly signed using the artist's full name and is currently available at a fantastic price.
Also featuring at Christie's will be a complete set of 100 colour woodcuts by Salvador Dali, which were created as illustrations for Dante's Divine Comedy. A brilliant showcase of Dali's surrealist style and his unique usage of the human form, they are expected to bring $6,000-8,000.
Paul Fraser Collectibles is also currently offering this original drawing from Dali, which is thought to be a depiction of the artist's wife and muse, Gala.
