Norman Rockwell's study for Pittsfield Main Street is expected to make $200,000-300,000 when it comes to auction at Sotheby's New York on April 16.
Rockwell (1894-1978) was commissioned to paint a mural for the Berkshire Life Insurance Company depicting the main thoroughfare of Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

This board was produced in preparation, and features a signed dedication to a Mr and Mrs W Rankin Furey on the reverse. Following the death of his wife in 1959, Rockwell abandoned the project and the contract was handed to another artist.

An important American impressionist, Redfield (1869-1965) is best known for the work he produced in the artist's colony of New Hope, Pennsylvania.
He was highly critical of his own body of work, which was considerably reduced after he burned a number of canvases in 1947.
On April 2, his Winter Sunlight achieved $710,500 at the sale of the George D Horst collection at Freeman's.
