A selection of pencils decorated by well-known contemporary artists and designers, including Paul Smith and Anish Kapoor, is to cross the block online at Paddle 8 on June 3.
The sale (titled The Secret Life of the Pencil) is being held to benefit Children in Crisis, an educational charity.

The charity's chief executive, Koy Thompson, explains: "It's such a simple tool, but with it comes the chance for each child to reveal their ambitions, their hopes and dreams; to write them into the world instead of keeping them hidden inside.
"In the war-affected countries where we work, places such as Afghanistan and the DR Congo, we know that you can't nurture futures without first sharpening pencils."
