An original blood painting by ex-Libertine Pete Doherty, featuring a self-portrait by the late Amy Winehouse, sold for £35,000 ($56,222) in London on Friday (May 11).

The piece, entitled Ladylike, was one of 20 paintings created by the notorious singer from his own blood. Bids were boosted by the contributions of Amy Winehouse, who splattered a portrait of herself on the work adopting Doherty's so-called Arterial Splatter technique. The troubled singer tragically died in 2011.
An undisclosed percentage of the £35,000 profit will be donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charitable organisation which aims to help young people in need.
The second-highest bids in the auction were brought by a collage entitled Smurf. Created by Doherty using mixed-media of relevance to his life, it brought £3,000.
Another collaboration, this time with actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, was snapped up by bidders anticipating the success of their soon-to-be-released film, The Confessions of a Child of the Century. A bargain at £2,900, Leet Strife/Somalians in Camden could be worth 10 times this price should the film see success at the box office.
The most intruiging lot of the sale was provided by a pair of taxidermy crows and two seemingly unconnected elephant carvings, which brought £420.
Our sister company, PFC Auctions, has one of Doherty's coveted blood paintings in its current auction. The piece, which features a self-portrait from the artist, was presented to a fan following a concert in 2010.
