Picasso etchings and postcards: an option for collectors 'on a budget'

You don't need to be a collectibles expert to know that rare artworks by Spanish painter Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) sell for tens-of-millions at auction. But what kinds of Picasso collectibles are out there for collectors on more modest budgets?

One good example coming up for auction is this original etching with aquatint printed in colours. It dates to circa 1950 and is signed by Picasso himself. These prints were limited to just 150 copies - this is number 31 - and published by Lacourière, Paris, on wove paper.

The work, titled Nature Mort au Crane, has full margins and measures 425 x 620mm (16 3/4 x 24 3/8 inches). Nature Mort au Crane will auction in 13 days (March 29) in London, and carries a £8,000-12,000 pre-sale estimate. Bids open at £7,000.

Even if £8,000-12,000 is beyond your budget, opportunities to own authentic pieces of Pablo Picasso's legacy don't end there.

Like this autographed Pablo Picasso postcard, for instance. It features one of the artist's greatest works, the Absinthe Drinker.

You might remember that the original Absinthe Drinker auctioned for $51.2m in 2010. So how much for this 6" x 4 ¼" postcard? Well, it can be yours for a relative bargain price of £3,950 ($6,198). Picasso signed this postcard 45 years ago in 1967.
