L'Homme au Gibus (Man with Opera Hat), a painting by Pablo Picasso worth $1m, was the prize in a raffle held at Sotheby's in Paris yesterday (December 18).

The painting was completed in 1914

It was won by a young American named Jeffrey Gonano, who decided to enter the raffle on a whim. "I was looking for art and I thought I might as well," he commented.

The event was held by Olivier Picasso, grandson of the painter.

The tickets cost €100 (around $136), with the proceeds going to protect the ancient Lebanese city of Tyre - which was damaged during the long-running civil war.
