They say a picture tells a thousand words.
This one tells a love story.
As an autograph dealer, almost all the signed photographs I come across are official publicity shots.
But this is something altogether more special.
And it features one of the most famous smiles in history.
The year is 1959. And the man in question is Elvis Presley.
Just check out those pearly whites...
It was taken by someone close to Elvis, who managed to capture all his warmth and charm in a single shot.
It's completely natural. Unposed.
Simply put – there isn't another Elvis signed photograph like this anywhere in the world.
It's literally the only copy.
Unique. Unpublished. And signed by the King himself.
It's a genuine thrill to hold it in your hands.
And it's brand new in stock. It arrived this week, and went live in my store today.
In my experience, opportunities to own signed photos this special don't come around too often.
So let's take a closer look...
This remarkable photograph was taken in the late summer of 1959, whilst Elvis was stationed with the U.S Army in Friedberg, West Germany.
During this time Elvis first met his future wife Priscilla, as she attended school in the nearby town of Wiesbaden.
The original owner of the photo was Priscilla's schoolmate. She met Elvis that summer and took several candid shots as the couple began their romance.
The photograph itself is delicate, measuring 2.5” square.
However, the black and white image is larger than life.
This is a wonderful portrait of Elvis, full of happiness.
The glint in his eyes and his famous grin leap off the page.
It's a picture of a man in love.
Elvis has signed the photograph boldly on the reverse in blue ballpoint ink.
There's a little wear and tear, which is common for a vintage photo clearly treasured by the original owner.
This wasn't just hidden away in a stuffy album. It was carried close as a precious memento.
Imagine meeting Elvis and hanging out with him during that summer of 1959...
What an amazing memory to have.
And what a fantastic piece to add to your collection.
Like all the finest pieces of Elvis memorabilia, this photo has a personal touch that gives it something magical.
It's that magic that Elvis collectors go crazy for.
I've been in this business for over 40 years - and the Elvis memorabilia market has never looked so strong.
The PFC40 Autograph Index shows the value of his signature alone has risen by 9.5% per annum for the past 20 years straight.
When it comes to recent sales, results are seriously impressive. They include:
- His first demo recording from 1953 which sold in 2015 for $300,000.
- His engraved Omega watch, which sold in 2018 for $1.8 million.
- A belt he wore on stage which sold in June 2020 for $298,000.
Each of those sales set a new auction record.
And then last summer, in the midst of a global pandemic and financial uncertainty...
The guitar Elvis played during his early Sun Studios recordings sold for a world record $1.32 MILLION.
That's what Elvis Presley gives to his fans. A sense of stability in a crazy world.
If you're an investor, his memorabilia can bring the same thing to your portfolio.
When it comes to historic autographs, Elvis Presley is a solid 'blue chip' signature.
Cultural icons don't come any bigger or more desirable for collectors.
