A notebook belonging to English poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-1861) will be offered at Bonhams later this month.
Elizabeth Barrett Browning was a celebrated Victorian era poet
She used it to compose most of The Seraphim and Other Poems (published 1838).
It’s expected to sell for around $400,000-600,000 in a March 9 books and manuscripts sale in New York.
Browning was a prolific writer who began composing poetry from the age of four. The Seraphim and Other Poems is among her earliest publications and established her as one of the most acclaimed poets of the Victorian era.
She was the first woman considered for the position of poet laureate (although she lost out to Tennyson in the end).
