This is a classic image of Sir Winston Churchill in a familiar head and shoulders pose with bow-tie.
Churchill has signed 'Winston S. Churchill' to the lower portion of the photographer's mount.
The photograph is lightly mounted, framed and glazed in the original frame to an overall size of 6 x 9inches.
A note on the reverse of the frame explains that the photo was sent to a Captain Dunbar in 1950 when Churchill was invited to attend a Reunion Dinner of the Scottish Returned Far East Prisoner of War Association.
Also included is a typed letter from one of Churchill's secretaries explaining that he would be unable to attend the dinner.
Churchill served as Prime Minister from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955.
During his army career, Churchill saw action in India, in the Sudan and the Second Boer War.
He also served briefly in the British Army on the Western Front in World War I, commanding the 6th Battalion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers.
He is the only British Prime Minister to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature and only the second person to be made an Honorary Citizen of the United States.
Upon his death in 1965, Queen Elizabeth II granted him the honour of a state funeral, which saw one of the largest assemblies of statesmen in the world.
Churchill was also voted number one Greatest Briton of all time in a 2002 BBC poll.
A superb piece.
