A copy of Edward Curtis' The North American Indian: The Southwest will sell at PBA Galleries in San Francisco on July 28.
|
The book is abridged from Curtis' 1907 20 volume masterpiece capturing the disappearing lives of the indigenous Americans.
The present reprint dates to 1980 and is numbered 77 of 228, although only 99 were ever produced.
The publisher, Classic Gravure Collection, was established expressly to reprint Curtis' work and bought up all his 2,220 copperplates.
The prints were reissued on archival paper and remain highly sought after.
The present lot is expected to make around $15,000-20,000.
