A first edition copy of F Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby is to provide the highlight of Heritage Auctions' Rare Books Signature Auction on October 17 in New York.

The book, a rare find complete with original first printing dust jacket, will sell with a $60,000+ estimate.
First edition copies of Fitzgerald's American masterpiece have always been a sought after item for collectors, but since the success of Baz Lurhmann's 2013 screen adaptation, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, interest has increased.
An example sold at Sotheby's in June for $112,500, suggesting strong results for the present lot.
The example at Heritage Auctions is in good condition, the dust jacket sporting only a few small chips, tears and loss to the edges and spine ends. It has various condition issues and is somewhat fragile, but is nonetheless valued as a complete, unrestored copy.

Also starring in the sale is a complete first edition set of Ian Fleming's James Bond books, which is valued at $30,000+. Comprising 14 true first editions, with For Your Eyes Only signed by Fleming on the title page, all examples are in very good to near fine condition.
The sale also features a signed and inscribed copy of Ian Fleming's Goldfinger, in which the author has written "To Nicholas Woolmer, who has good taste in English literature! from Ian Fleming". It is valued at $15,000+.
Nicholas Woolmer was a literary critic and reviewer, who had apparently written very kindly of Fleming's work.
Paul Fraser Collectibles has a great range of literary collectibles for sale, including an autographed piece from Mark Twain and signed letters from Charles Dickens.
