Dreweatts and Bloomsbury will offer a rare first edition copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (1997) in an upcoming auction.
Harry Potter became a publishing phenomenon
The first edition was released in hardback in a run of 500. Around 300 of these went to libraries, leaving just 200 on the market.
We’ve seen other examples of this issue sell for more than $55,000 in the past.
The auction house comments: “This summer marks twenty years since this phenomenal book first enchanted millions of readers spanning all generations and it is expected to attract intense bidding from collectors.”
The lot is valued at £25,000-28,000 ($31,828-35,647) ahead of the July 20 sale in London.
We have a signed copy of Harry Potter author JK Rowling's The Casual Vacancy for sale.
