Illustrator Quentin Blake’s re-imagined cover to Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame made £13,750 ($18,343) in a charity auction last night.
That’s a big increase on the original valuation of £5,000 ($6,670).

The cover was one of several by well known artists to feature in Sotheby’s English Literature sale. The proceeds will go to the newly opened House of Illustration in London.
A new cover to PG Wodehouse’s My Main Jeeves by Raymond Petition (best known for his LP designs for American hardcore band Black Flag) made £5,000 ($6,670).
