National Book Auctions' late November catalogue is now up, and it features an assortment of exciting pieces centred around antique volumes and modern signed books and ephemera, including an original collection of items signed by author Stephen King.
Collectors keen on Pablo Picasso, but perhaps without the means to own one of his paintings, will be intrigued to see a copy of the German limited edition of Picasso Carnet de la Californie from 1959, a large folio containing 25 lithographic leaves with 39 full-page facsimiles of drawings.
This rare volume is one of just 500 numbered copies printed in German.
There are several other original pen and ink drawings by artists Edwin Meeker and Charles A. Vanderhoof, later engraved for the Battles & Leaders of the Civil War collection from The Century Company.
Presidential enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice in the sale, which includes an 1801 printing of Thomas Jefferson's Notes on the State of Virginia with the original fold-out maps; an 1817 printing of The Life of Andrew Jackson; and even an 1899 first edition of Theodore Roosevelt's The Rough Riders.
Other antique titles include Farrow's Military Encyclopedia from 1885; Hulme's Mathematical Drawing Instruments from 1880; and Frost's two-volume Pictorial History of the United States from 1844.
This catalogue also offers several items signed by acclaimed writer Stephen King. Included in this group is a signed photograph of King from a 1980's American Express advertisement and a first British edition, signed by the author, of King's controversial book, Rage, written under King's pen name, Richard Bachman.
Among the other author-signed items is a complete 28-volume Burwash Edition of the complete works of Rudyard Kipling, limited to 1,010 copies, with the first volume signed by Kipling. Additional signed pieces in this catalogue include a wide selection of author-signed books from novelists such as Arthur C. Clarke, James Patterson, Tom Clancy, John Grisham, Janet Evanovich and Sue Grafton.
Also included are signed volumes from politicians including John Kerry, Al Gore, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and ex-President Bill Clinton; sports figures such as Carl Ripken, Jr., Mike Schmidt, Duke Snider and Bobby Thomson are also represented.
Of course, before we even get to this later sale the auction house is offering some intriguing Presidential memorabilia on November 7 in the form of a book by Kennedy signed by Obama. The later auction takes place on November 21 and we'll bring you the results of both when they're available.
