A 1928 Mercedes-Benz S-Type 26/180 sports tourer is a highlight of Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auction on August 18-19.
Less than 150 of these cars were produced and only a few have made it to the present day.

This example features stunning coachwork by German maker Glaser in an eye-catching lemon yellow.
It’s valued at $5m-6m.
The lot is one of three major pre-war classics to feature in the auction.
A 1939 Bugatti Type 57C Cabriolet, thought to be the last made before the outbreak of the second world war, is expected to make $1.5m-2m.
There’s also a 1937 Maserati 6CM raced in the prestigious Targa Florio that looks set to sell for up to $1.4m.

The undisputed highlight of the auction will be the 1970 Porsche 917K used in Steve McQueen’s classic Le Mans (1978).
If it hits its $13m-16m estimate it will become the most valuable Porsche ever sold.
