A rare 1961 Chrysler 300G Covertible took the top spot at Mecum Auctions' sale of the Verde Classics Museum Collection, held on February 25 in Florida.

The car, one of the finest of its kind, realised $130,000, as 100% of Fran and Ron Green's personal collection was sold. In total, the 75 collector cars and 470 lots of road art and memorabilia made an impressive $3.7m.
The Chrysler is one of just 338 produced in 1961 and, having won the Antique Automobile Club of America's (AACA) first place honours in both 2002 and 2004, it is undoubtedly one of the top surviving examples. It was the last of Virgil Exner's brilliant designs to feature the trademark fins for which he was famous.
Boasting an impressive 413/375hp V-8 engine with a cross-ram intake system and two four-barrel carburettors fitted as standard, the 300G couples its luxury appearance with enough muscle to impress come race day.

Perhaps the most exciting sale of the day was a 1967 13-window Volkswagen bus, which had just undergone a complete six year restoration before appearing in the sale. The iconic Type 2 Transporter sold for $100,000 in fantastic all-original condition, accompanied by a photographic record of the restoration.
Iconic cars were hot property in the sale, with a 1962 Chevrolet Corvette Covertible following close behind the Volkswagen at $97,000. Sporting Ferrari's Rosso Corso red paint, the Corvette had just undergone an eight year body-off nut and bolt restoration.
