Bonhams will offer the 1964 Lotus Type 34 that won pole position at the 1965 Indianapolis 500 in its August 18 Quail Lodge auction.
The Type 34 beat the American marques at their own game
The lot is expected to make around $1.8m-2.5m.
This was the second of two Type 34s British marque Lotus built to take on the might of the American racing industry.
It achieved a string of sterling results in the US between 1964 and 1966, including four victories in USAC races.
Bonhams refers to it as “the winningest Lotus Indy car”.
