A 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 was the star lot of Barrett-Jackson's annual Palm Beach sale on April 10, with a final bid of $550,000.

The lot is one of 1,358 such models built. It was originally designed to compete in NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series and was offered for public sale to comply with the homologation rules surrounding the sport.
Company CEO Craig Jackson explained the growing popularity of cars as an investment to the Palm Beach Post: "Cars always have been something people have looked at as an alternative investment.
"Cars have gone up 400 percent over the last 10 years."
