A rare, jet black 1960 Aston Martin DB4 Series II has top performed at Silverstone's November 17 classic car auction in the UK.

41 out of the 67 lots available sold, with the elegant, six cylinder Aston Martin DB4 heading the auction at £224,000 ($359,000) - £24,000 ($38,464) above its high estimate of £200,000 ($320,504).
The classic car brand, iconically associated with the James Bond film franchise, only produced 351 DB4 Series IIs. Testament to its rarity, in 1960 a new model DB4 would have cost £3,974 ($6,368) - then, the same price as a substantial house in Surrey, UK.

Initially, the vehicle was delivered in 1960 to a Mr Wilson McConnell - a business man based in Montreal, Canada. His personal specifications included chrome wire wheels, heated rear windows and a set of fitted suitcases.
Two restored VW Beetles also sold well: the first, a 1952 split-window model, achieved £23,520 ($37,689) while a 1954 oval model sold for £16,800 ($26,931) - only slightly less than a classic Fiat 500 L, previously owned by current British prime minister, David Cameron.
