Doctor Who's first car auctions for $9,500 in charity sale

Doctor Who actor Matt Smith's first car has sold in a charity auction to benefit the Starlight Children's Foundation.

Smith nicknamed his car 'The Shed' and said it has seen lots of adventures and mishaps

The auction was held through eBay, raising £6,300 ($9,576) for terminally ill children. The young actor bought the "pre-Tardis" car - nicknamed "The Shed" - in 2000, before he was accepted into the National Youth Theatre.

Prior to the sale, Smith said of the car: "It has seen lots of adventures, not to mention a few mishaps. I'll be very sad to see it go."

Celebrity-owned cars are always popular when they appear at auction, but few so much as John Lennon's Ferrari 330GT 2+2 Coupe, which sold for £359,900 ($544,028) at Bonhams on July 12, setting a new world record for the model.
