Militaria specialists Hermann Historica have completed another section of their auction series with a short sale of Vintage Engines. One of the key highlights was a Kübelwagen with four-wheel drive.
This vehicle is true to the original reconstruction of the prototype four-wheel drive Kübelwagen 86. Some parts originate from the VW Type 87 (Kommandeurwagen). The body is partly made from a Kübelwagen Type 82. Six Type 86 were built during the war, but its performance was disappointing, so it was never put on series production.

The vehicle boasts an air ventilation box carrying the VW logo, and the silencer has been reconstructed true to original. The front has hydraulic shock absorbers, whilst the back has the Houdaille type.
The doors have sheeting on the sides; the guards and running boards are copied but the old wheelhouses are welded back on. The bonnet has sheeting as well as the front axle guard.
The imposing four-wheeler obviously impressed bidders as it beat its €40,000 listing to sell for an impressive €50,000.
