The Tesla Roadster owned by George Clooney will draw the bids on August 18
A Pebble Beach auction on August 18-19 is to feature George Clooney's 2008 Tesla Roadster among some of the world's finest cars.
Clooney is known for his fleet of interesting eco-vehicles, with the Tesla Roadster among the finest in his collection. It is one of the earliest production models of the high-performance electric car - the eighth ever built - and a limited edition Signature 100 model. The car is expected to make between $100,000 and $150,000 in the sale - about the same price as a new one. The proceeds from Clooney's car will benefit the Satellite Sentinel Program, which was co-founded by the actor to monitor the borders of Sudan via satellite to prevent the return of civil war in the country. In 2008, Tesla made waves in the car industry with the release of its top-end roadster. Boasting a 375-Volt AC induction air-cooled electric motor, with 248 BHP at 5,000-8,000 RPM, it is one of the fastest electric cars available and helped shake the old image of slow, sluggish golf carts. However, the undoubted highlight of the sale will be a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider Competizione, which originates from the distinguished Sherman M Wolf Collection. It is one of only nine alloy-bodied LWB California Spiders ever made and was the first car that Wolf ever acquired for his collection. A brilliant show car with superb racing history, it is expected to bring $7m-9m. In keeping with the auction's location, another of Wolf's Ferraris - a 1953 340 MM Spider - will star among the top sellers. The car was the winner of the 1954 Pebble Beach Road Races and is an important Ferrari competition car. Having won at Pebble Beach, Palm Springs and Seafair, it will sell for $4.5m-6.5m, accompanied by the unrestored, matching-numbers engine.Check back with Paul Fraser Collectibles regularly for the results of this exciting sale.
