Steve McQueen's car chase in Bullitt
Bonhams and Butterfields are holding an auction of Classic Californian themed lots on November 14 including a selection of cars and motorbikes.
McQueen's 1949 Chevrolet 3100 pick-up truck is on offer at the expected price of $20,000-30,000. McQueen could travel more or less anonymously in this, provided he wore a hat and shades, so he used it to dodge photographers.

In fantastic condition is a Ford Mustang Bullitt, the very first of the range built in 2001 to commemorate the movie in which Lt Frank Bullitt (McQueen) has a classic car chase in a 1968 Mustang GT. The car was presented to Steve McQueen's son, Chad who is a professional racer.
Since he was presented with it, it has been driven just 2012 miles.
The most eye-catching of the three however is the 1940 Indian Chief motorcycle which (Steve) McQueen used as his personal ride, and with which he appears on the cover of the biography Steve McQueen: The Last Mile (Barbra McQueen and Marshall Terrill).

McQueen had it carefully restored in the 1970s. It is listed here at $55,000-$65,000, which may well prove to be an underestimate.
The memorabilia part of the sale naturally contains a number of posters and other items to interest a McQueen fan too.
