A Wayne Rooney diamond encrusted motorbike raised cash for KidsAid
A diamond encrusted motorbike designed by England football star Wayne Rooney sold for 109,000 in a charity eBay auction on June 21.
The sale represented a welcome stroke of success for the striker, after the England team were knocked out of the Euro 2012 tournament by Italy last night (June 24). Luckily, the bike's artwork focused on Rooney's success with Manchester United rather than his recent international flop. The Lauge Jensen creation was decorated with a genuine Rooney-signed number 10 shirt on the oil tank and a picture of his celebration for the goal that secured Manchester United the 2011 Premier League title at the rear mudguard. The product description on eBay provided this quote from Rooney: "The Bike we have designed takes its inspiration from the celebration of my overhead kick against Manchester City last season. The goal has been described by others as being of the highest quality, technical excellence, powerful and beautiful. I hope you will agree that the bike is all of this and more".Together with the Danish manufacturers, Rooney also helped design a special shift rod for the 155mph motorbike that was studded with 21 black diamonds and a single white diamond. Profits from the lavish vehicle's sale will go the Danish charity KidsAid, which provides support to children suffering from illnesses. Paul Fraser Collectibles is helping mourning England fans get over their recent loss by remembering that day in 1966 when their team ruled the world. We currently have this autographed menu from the resulting celebration banquet, which has been signed by all members of the winning squad. See more of our fantastic sporting memorabilia here.
