A Daimler DB18 Drophead Coupe that Winston Churchill used during and after the second world war sold for $614,487 in a German eBay auction that closed last night (April 29).

The Daimler was reportedly due for sale at Historics at Brooklands, but was put up for sale on eBay after the owner died suddenly. It is one of only eight built in 1939 and the only example that is known to have survived the tests of time.
The car escorted the British prime minister between 1944 and 1949, and photographs show him posing in the car wearing his 1945 election rosette. Its connection to Churchill's most famous years no doubt boosted its appeal to collectors considerably.
It has since undergone a $263,000 restoration.
In October 2012, Churchill's Land Rover Series 1 sold for $206,933 in the UK, making a 16.6% increase on estimate. The wartime leader's Morris Oxford has also recently appeared at auction, selling for $77,000.
