It's the rarest circulated coin in the British West Africa series, with only four known surviving specimens - two of which remain on the private market.
The other coin sold for $11,000 in 2014. It's of a significantly lower grade, with the present lot described as being in Mint state.
Other lots in the sale include a 1791 Sierra Leone British colony silver proof dollar, which is valued at $12,000-15,000.
The coin is described as the greatest Sierra Leone rarity, with only five pieces ever struck.
Heritage comments: "One of the most coveted proof crowns ever produced, this is the first time one has been sold publicly in at least a decade…
"It is extremely difficult to place any sort of number on this coin, but we fully expect that a new record price for a Sierra Leone coin will be set with this coin. It is sure to be one of the highlights of whatever collection it ends up in."
