What the auction house describes as the "Lichfield Haul" of ancient coins will be sold on February 13 in the UK.

The title of the auction mimics the Staffordshire Hoard, the largest cache of Anglo-Saxon gold ever found

The haul is actually the lifetime collection of a local man, which features more than 800 ancient Greek and Roman coins. Highlights include a Tetradrachm of Alexander the Great, a Metapontum Stater, Luceria Teruncius, Denarii of Mark Anthony and a large quantity of Roman moneyer issues.

Coin consultant Stephen Wrenn commented: "The gentleman had a real passion and knowledge of his subject and this shows in the diversity and quality of the collection which is going to attract international interest when it comes up for auction".
