Pennsylvania auction house Dan Morphy, normally specialists in all things weird and wonderful, held a speciality coin auction yesterday (August 24). Live internet bidding was also available.
Collectors' eyes were on a fresh-to-market 30-year-old collection of complete sets of coins, all in uncirculated condition or better.
The collection comprised Indian heads, Lincoln cents, Liberty nickels, buffalo nickels, Mercury dimes, Barber dimes, Liberty quarters, standing Liberty quarters, walking Liberty half dollars, Morgan silver dollars and trade dollars.

Starring among them was a 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter, which beat its lower estimate to realise a final price of $13,000 - a great investment for its lucky buyer.
A second featured collection also went under the hammer, including a commemorative half dollar set with all coins purchased from 1995-2000 in at least MS-65 condition.
