Singapore Millennium banknote estimated at $6k

Mavin International Pte Ltd is holding an auction of rare and collectible coins and banknotes over two consecutive Saturdays, March 13 and 20.

While the March 13 sale focuses on Coins & Postcards - including a $6,500 coin featuring China's "most powerful warlord" - the March 20 will feature rare and collectible banknotes.

Among the highlights is this $50 from 1999 note bearing the image of the first President of Singapore, Yusof bin Ishak (in office between 1965 and 1970).

The $50's serial number reads "0PK", suggesting it's a replacement note

Marked with the serial number, 0PK 222222, and banding markings, the prefixes 0PJ and 0PK of this series generally represent replacement notes.

The specimen was among the Portrait Series of currency notes, issued in 1999 - the fourth and current set of notes to be issued in Singapore. It features the signature of Richard Hu, BCCS Chairman.

The series was originally issued by the Board of Commissioners of Currency Singapore (BCCS) to welcome the new Millennium.

It will auction at Mavin with an estimate of $5,000-6,000.
