A US 1792 Birch cent made $517,000 in Heritage Auctions' World's Fair of Money sale in Anaheim on August 10.

The lot is one of 10 surviving examples of the rare issue.
It was sold alongside a 1792 silver cent, which realised $352,500.
Mark Borckardt, senior numismatist and spokesman for Heritage, told the OC Register: "The combination of these coins' rarity, condition and historical significance is why they are worth so much.
"These coins were prototypes. They were produced to show to Congress.
"These are extremely rare coins with incredible historical significance."
