An MS-66 graded 1916-D Mercury dime is to lead a sale of rare coins at Heritage Auctions in Dallas.
Bidding on the lot will open at $32,000 on February 26, with the sale due to close on March 1.

The issue is among the most popular US coins with both casual and serious collectors. This is due in large part to the attractiveness of its design, which displays classical themes - including a depiction of Mercury and the Roman fasces.
Heritage comments: "Although other Mercury dime issues may be scarcer, collector interest in the 1916-D exceeds that of all other dates in the series. Examples are available across virtually all grade levels.
"Mint State representatives such as this are scarce. At the MS66 level, fewer than two dozen coins are known."
An MS-64 1867 cameo Liberty Eagle is valued in excess of $22,000. It's the finest PGCS graded specimen of the issue, which was minted in a run of 50.
Heritage explains: "Despite having one of the higher proof mintages of the period (still only a paltry 50 pieces), the proof 1867 gold ten dollar is no more available today than are those issues with 25 and 30-coin mintages, and is arguably rarer in high grades.
"Most survival estimates suggest no more than a dozen examples are extant in all grades".
