A Springfield Arms Co navy revolver presented to famed sailor Captain Luce has top performed at Sotheby's Ali Cali collection of American percussion revolvers and civil war era carbines.
Luce received the circa 1851 revolver after setting a new world record time of nine hours, 17 hours for a transatlantic crossing, aboard paddle steamer the SS Arctic in 1852.

The revolver's antique pedigree and connection to the historic event saw it sell well within estimate for $62,500 on May 22.
The New York auction also featured a Starr Arms Co model 1863 revolver, which sold far above its $40,000 high valuation for $53,125.
